BusinessWeek actually did an excellent story on this very topic earlier this
year,19 and they found the REAL numbers right on Pfizer’s own newspaper ad for
Lipitor.

Upon first glance, the ad boasts that Lipitor reduces heart attacks by 36 percent.
But there is an asterisk. And when you follow the asterisk, you find the following
in much smaller type:

"That means in a large clinical study, 3% of patients taking a sugar pill or
placebo had a heart attack compared to 2% of patients taking Lipitor."
What this means is that for every 100 people who took the drug over 3.3 years,
three people on placebos, and two people on Lipitor, had heart attacks. That
means that taking Lipitor resulted in just one fewer heart attack per 100 people.

Ask the pharmacist

1) 100 people took lipitor. Assume they r taking lipitor 20mg, cost about RM 180/box of 30s.
3.3 years means 39.6 months
Total cost for 1 person = 39.6 months x 180= RM 7128
Total cost for 100 people= RM 712,800

Is it justify to treat 100 people for 3.3 years which will cost RM 712,800 to prevent 1 heart attack case?
U think your life worth RM 712k for 3.3 years? How about years after the 3.3?

Going out of business

People say 9 out of 10 businesses fail in 2 years. Out of the business who succeed, 9 will failed in another 10 years. Myth or truth?

My pharmacy is nearing 3 years old and i have seen many businesses come and go. I have the opportunity to see becoz i opened my shop in a new area, on a new row of shophouses.

My town, Teluk Intan is too saturated with pharmacies. If i open it that area, competition will be tense and i guess the pharmacist there will definitely hate me. So i choose a new area and try to introduce them pharmacy service. It is sad as i make new friends here, but after sometime they r no more.

Here is the list of closed business.
1) Chinese restaurant (<2years)
WSPang had tried the food b4. Salty and not nice.

2) Malay restaurant (< 1 year)
Nice food but i dont like the boss smoking.

3) Steamboat restaurant (<2 years)

4) 24 hours supermarket (<2years)

5) Joss sticks shop (< 2years)

6) Cake and bun shop (<2months)

7) Night Bar (<6months)

Business who succeed the 2 years curse
1) Mamak shop
2) Cybercafe
3) Evacuator shop
4) Handphone shop
5) Chinese Food Stall Restaurant
6) Pharmacy (ops, but dont come to my place to open business, i will make sure u fail within a year)
7) Electrical shop
8) RM 5 shop (selling cheap cheap products)

So, u think it is a myth or truth? Make sure you know wat r u into if u want to open business. U will have to sacrifice for long hours. I hope i can survive the 10 years curse as well.

Busy month

It has been some time since i updated my blog. I am quite busy running and managing my retail shop. I am having a Bone Density Test and Stress test for my customers courtesy of Shine company in my shop later evening.

Baby Yen Yi is crying every night and this is made my life more hectic, even although i really dont mind. For your information, basically i have to wake up every 3 hours to feed her. Although my wife is doing the job, i still wakes up to help her..a bit lar...

Money already received from the couples whom i took their picture few weeks ago. But i not yet finished editing my work. I guess it is either me, ie i am not fast enough or my computer AMD Athlon X2 with 4 GB RAM which is still slow (u know wat i mean if u do a lot of photoshop editing) and thus delaying the progress.
Then i have to monitor the share market closely as buying anything is like a roller coaster ride. Morning can go down 20 points, and then afternoon shoot up 20 points. Today it went down 27 points. Tomorrow u see wat happens. These type of bursa is definitely not for the faint hearted. If i am older, i guess i have to take some co enzyme Q10. Let me know if u need some, i got sell.

If u really hate someone, ask them to buy shares now and tell them it is damn cheap....hahaI bought in some IOICORP today morning as it make new lows. I just cannot see a good company shares plunging to lower and lower and i do nothing to help the company. Plan to add more is it reach 3.20. When is Anwar going to take over and save the bursa? This is what he claimed, having met with i cant remember who foreign investors. Can anyone tell me whether he is waiting for the right time or just simply bluffing all the way?
