How do u take postinor-2?According to,
1)Manufacturer leaflet: one Postinor-2 within 72 hours following intercourse and another 12 hours after taking the first pill.
2) Martindale reference: levonorgestrel may be given alone by mouth in a single dose of 1.5 mg (2 tablets) within 72 hours of coitus (preferably as soon as possible).Alternatively, a dose of 750 micrograms (1 tablet) is given within 72 hours of coitus (preferably as soon as possible), and repeated after 12 hours.
3) BNF 53rd Ed Sept 2007: 1.5mg as a single dose as soon as possible (preferably within 12hours but no later than after 72 hours.

Due to popular search, I have decided to answer most of the questions posted by my reader here1) I would advise them to take as single dose, ie 2 tab at once as soon as possible for increased compliance and to follow the latest advise from British National Formulary. Actually the pills can be taken up to 120 hours after sex, without regard to menstrual cycle, but the efficay reduced as the time pass. The pregnancy rate if taken after one day is 0.4%, 2 days is 1.2% and 3 days is 2.7%.
After u have taken the 2 pills, u may experience menstrual bleeding within one week of the expected time. If u took the pills late into the cycle, your next menses will be prolonged.
2) After u have taken postinor, if u have unprotected sex again, u may become pregnant. So u can take another 2 pills again as the max doses is 4 pills /month.
If u vomited within one hour, take a vomiting pills together with postinor again.
3) The safest unprotected sex is few days before your menses come.
Just use the other methods if u r not sure, ok? Dont understand? Use barrier. DONT UNDERSTAND? USE CONDOM lar ...hehe....

I am writing here because i am very nervous and paranoic , i had relations with my girlfriend who she is 20 years old, when he had relations the condom didn't break BUT it stayed their in her vagina at the moment of "detaching" from her but i didnt came unto her i just decided to stop because i was feeling uncomfortable at the moment and well like i said at the moment of detaching from her the condom stayed inside of her , so we got very scared and went to our nearest pharmacy 2 blocks away

hey, i would like to know the effectiveness of postinor if i took it after 36 hours from intercourse and i am on rifampicin. I postponed the time when i usually take rifampicin so that i took it at equal times from the two postinor pills ( i took one pill of postinor, after 6 hours i took rifampicin, and after other 6 hours i took the second postinor pill). Is postinor going to be as effective as written in your post or rifampicin can lower its efficiency seriously?

maggie, if you are on rifampicin, i will suggest your partner to use condom. Rifampin can cross over to the placenta and it can cause harm to the fetus. The worse situation is the fetus may get TB too if you are pregnant.
Half life of Rifampin is about 4 hours. that means after 4 hours, 50% of rifampin concentration is still in the blood. after 8 hours, 25% is still there. So your method will not work. The chances of your contraceptive failure is very high.
i would advise you to consult your nearby pharmacist to get a better explanation if you need any.

Can you tell me please whether it would be better to take both tablets of postinor 2 after unprotected intercourse and the rifampicin eight hours after postinor? Or it would be better to take one tablet of postinor and after 8 hours the rifampicin and the next day (after about 24 hours from the first postinor tablet) the second postinor tablet? ( in order to make everything clear, let's just say that I take the first postinor tablet at 12 am, rifampicin at 8 pm, and the second postinor tablet at 12 am the next day). Would this plan be more effective than taking the tablet as i took it? I am asking you this because maybe this situation will happen again in the future. For now, I can just keep my fingers cross. By the way, we used condom, but it broke. I do not use any regular contraceptive method cause it is inneficient due to the same rifampicin. On the other side, i have chronic TB so the acute stage might come back any time in life. I am asking you this in order to know what to do in the future. Thank you so much for your valuable advices.
